Hayden Associates was retained to function as an environmental manager for BAESA, a Pepsi Cola "Super Bottler" in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The scope of this project included the task to review and approve the design and construction of the TAMET and SUC wastewater treatment plants. Over a period of two years, Hayden Associates worked closely with the Project Engineer, Quality Control Manager and Altecnica, the Argentine contractor.

At the SUC plant, the wastewater treatment plant had to be installed in available space, which was very small. At the TAMET plant, extremely poor soil conditions necessitated an unusual structural design. Both plants consisted of oil removal, pH control, nutrient addition, biofilters, activated sludge, and sludge filtration. Many meetings were conducted to work out a design that would satisfy the space requirements and civil constraints of both sites yet able to achieve the desired performance. Throughout the project, Hayden Associates acted as the owner representative reviewing all drawings, equipment selections and schedule and were involved in both start-up of both treatment plants. At present, treatment plants are in full operation, the personnel have been trained and both effluents comply with permit limitations.
